Ivory Nunez-Medrano

Program Manager | Teaching & Learning

Ivory is a Teaching Artist who has been working in after-school and community art-making programs in New York City for more than 10 years. As Program Manager of Teaching and Learning, Ivory develops CAW curricula in collaboration with CAW Teaching Artists and our school and community partners to ensure best practices across all programs and for all students and Youth Apprentices. In addition, Ivory works closely with his fellow Program Managers and executive staff to execute and articulate compliance with NYC and New York State guidelines, Common Core Standards, and accepted creative youth development practices. Ivory began with CAW as a Teaching Artist and will continue his practice throughout his tenure with CAW.

Prior to joining CAW, he worked as a Teaching Artist for Scribble Art Workshop, where he taught graphic design, sculpture, drawing, and painting to students in grades K–9; collaborated on redesigning curricula and prepared lesson plans; and trained and evaluated new staff. Prior to this, Ivory worked as a teaching artist at Lincoln Center, where he taught open art-making workshops, created lesson plans, and created and documented content for visual storytelling workshops.

Ivory holds an MFA in Visual Narrative from The School of Visual Arts and a BA in Art History from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. Originally from the Dominican Republic, he is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. He maintains a personal art practice that includes traditional, digital, and mixed painting, drawing and calligraphy. His work is influenced by his interest in oral history, graphic novels, and Dominican culture.

Ivory lives in Upper Manhattan with his wife and three children.
